One remarkable feature of the leftist thoughtworld is the fickleness of its “concern” over “the downtrodden.” Usually, of course, third world workers are mascots of leftist sentimentality, in need of their protection from the evils of American-owned factories paying starvation wages.

But when it comes to the textile business, the leftists are complaining that workers in the US will have to find new jobs because of the success of foreign producers. If we protect the US textile industry, there will be less employment for textile workers in China and other places and they can trudge back to the fields to eke out a living, if they’re lucky.

But consistency is the hobgoblin of small minds, as the leftists so often say.
