Duke University’s William Schlesinger is a frequent JLF policy opponent
on air quality issues. On Tuesday, Roy Cordato’s letter to the
editor of the Charlotte Observer again refuted a Schlesinger
argument. This time, the subject was Schlesinger’s assertion of a
direct relationship between ground level ozone and asthma and heart disease,
a belief Schlesinger and a colleague detailed in a recent Observer
Viewpoint piece
.  Cordato wrote that the opposite is true for
asthma, and that for heart disease, neither the federal government nor
the state touts reducing heart disease as a benefit
of getting ride of ozone.
