Alamance County commissioners are embroiled in a partisan debate over a proposed sales tax hike:

Democratic Commissioners Linda Massey, Eddie Boswell and Ann Vaughan said Thursday they will vote in favor of a referendum, while Republican Commissioners Bill Lashley and Tim Sutton said they will vote against it.

Commissioners will take up the issue at their June 7 meeting.

Sutton said the Democrats are being “dishonest” about the referendum and said he will ask for a public hearing on the issue before the commissioners vote on it.

I’m not looking into the hearts of Dems down in Burlington, but among the general fibs spread about a sales tax hikes are is that it’s “fair,”, that people say they don’t mind the increase as long as they keep services and —-last but not least —– it will be repealed when the “economy and revenues return to normal.”
