Here’s a strange story out of the Alamance County jail, where three jailers have been fired and and a fourth has resigned following an investigation that they “improperly handled” a juvenile:

The juvenile showed up at the jail with one of his parents after 7 p.m. Saturday. The juvenile’s parents asked if they could tour the jail. The incident occurred during that tour, which was not approved by Sheriff Terry Johnson, according to the release.

“The circumstances are not alleged to involve narcotics, alcohol nor any sexual act or innuendo,” the release states. “Preliminarily, the investigation has revealed that during a requested jail tour a white male juvenile is alleged to have been improperly restrained and possibly assaulted.”

One of the juvenile’s parents contacted Johnson after the tour, and Johnson initiated both a criminal and administrative investigation.

This FOX 8 story from its Web site doesn’t say as much, but they reported last night that the juvenile’s visit to the jail was part of a “scared straight” effort. I guess the parents got a little more than they bargained for.
