Who even knew school boards had their own budgets?

At any rate, some member of the Alamance-Burlington Board of Education suggested they cut their budget by 10 percent —-15 percent in board member Tony Rose’s original motion:

“I think we can spend less on food,” Rose said. “I certainly don’t mind going through the drive-through before we meet” instead of food being provided for the board before meetings. The board budgeted $9,000 for food this year, down from $14,000 in previous years, when the full amount budgeted wasn’t spent. As of late March, the board had $4,000 remaining in the food budget.

Rose “also questioned also questioned the extent to which the system benefits from being a member of the North Carolina School Board Association, at a cost of more than $19,000 per year.”

Neither motion made the cut, so to speak. The board voted 5-2 not to reduce its own budget.
