Call it a two-alarm blaze at the Uptown paper of record. On the news side we have Carrie Levine telling us that local Repubs are out-showing the Dems in the early voting count. Then we have Mary Newsom fretting in a column that the “wrong” Mecklenburg is going to show up and vote this election.
Taken together, these pieces form a warning signal to the Powers That Be to gin up the turnout machine to get the desired result — or else. Or else everthing comes undone — the transit tax, the Uptown baseball deal, the Smart Growth, the $500 million school bond in 07, etc.
