Great story about AMC theaters.

The theater chain is offering free popcorn to federal employees during the government shutdown. It shows the ingenuity of the free market. You don’t have to buy a ticket, but common sense tells you many people will. It’s smart business. And then there’s the publicity they’ll receive as well.

“The offer is good until common sense is restored in Washington, D.C., or, more likely, until the shutdown ends or we run out of free popcorn. Consistent with past free popcorn giveaways on Tax Day Weekend, the purchase of a ticket is not necessary to receive the offer.”

Federal employees also can apply the cost of a small popcorn toward a larger size.

And then there’s this nugget in the Hollywood Reporter story.

All they need to do is present a valid government or military I.D. card at any AMC location.

Hmm. Just wondering who’s going to alert Attorney General Eric Holder to this outrage. He’s quite happy to engage in other nonsensical lawsuits, so why not target AMC too?
