Anyone wondering about what the Carolina Panthers are up to after cutting three starters yesterday including Jake Delhomme — money. And money.
The Big Cat basically cut his son a few months back and replaced him with a trusted administrator in preparation for a possible capless season. So absolutely no one — and I’m looking at you Scott Fowler — should be surprised by or question the move to axe Jake.
To grossly oversimplify, the Panthers have roughly $30m. they could spend on free agents with these roster moves made. Hands up who thinks that happens?
If it does it will mean the Big Cat has suddenly put winning ahead of money. Do not count on it.
Update: OK, lets name some names that the Panthers might end up with, if they were so inclined. Colts DT Raheem Brock, DE Aaron Kampman, WR Derrick Mason. Stay tuned.
