The N&O’s Robbi Pickeral says voting for the All-ACC team is too heavily skewed toward North Carolina sportswriters.
I personally cringe every year the team is announced because it’s rarely ever a “team.” This year is no exception: three guards (Toney Douglas, Jack McClinton and Ty Lawson) a swingman (Gerald Henderson) and a center (you know who).
I’ve debated this issue with a good friend of mine for years now, and he’s always maintained the All-ACC team should be the five best players, period. I realize basketball is a more fluid game than football or baseball, but I still maintain it should be a real team with the best players from each position —- guard, forward, center —– fielded as if they were going to play a real game. As good as these individual players are, would any coach start a team with three six-foot guards and expect to win?
