I was busy tending to other matters yesterday, and I decided anyway to wait and see if we would know more about three Greensboro police officers involved in an alleged assault. We don’t. Neither does the City Council:
“I really don’t have anything to say because I don’t know anything,” Councilwoman Goldie Wells said Thursday. “The (city’s) legal department says they can’t release anything.”
….Mayor Yvonne Johnson ordered the city manager to update the council on the investigation, but the updates didn’t include specific details.
Yvonne Johnson said she is “disappointed and distraught” about the allegations.
“I think the majority of men and women of the police department are excellent,” the mayor said. “But I think we have got to get some things cleared in this department.
“You can’t help but feel some frustration and some despair whether it’s true or not.”
I’m glad Chief Tim Bellamy, the last council’s handpicked successor to the controversial David Wray, has really straightened things out in the police department.
