WRAL says that Thomas Stith mounted a “a brutal challenge” against incumbent mayor Bill Bell, but “a healthy voter turnout” produced an unprecedented fourth term for His Honor.

“Healthy turnout” in this case means three fourths of the voters stayed home. To put it in perspective, Mayor Bell was re-elected by 14% of the population. Thomas Stith convinced 10% it was time for a change, and the other 76% went along with whatever their neighbors decided.

Whether the winner is Republican or Democrat, that just isn’t healthy at all.
