Here?s a noteworthy piece in The Washington Times about Michigan?s potential constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage in the state. Several other states have already scheduled Nov. 2 referenda on the issue, or are in the process of doing so. Battleground states where this is going on include Oregon, Michigan, Arkansas, and Ohio. Republicans believe that holding these votes will result in higher turnout among culturally conservative voters, thus helping Bush and other GOP candidates.

Of course, many Republicans also believe the amendments are necessary and proper.
