With the keep word being “applies.” The U.S. and Cuba have a new aviation framework, which will soon allow scheduled air service between the two countries. There’s a key limit though: Only 20 flights a day will be allowed by U.S. airlines to Havana. And there’s been an absolute feeding frenzy of applications for those limited Havana rights. American, Delta, United, Frontier, Spirit, Alaska, jetBlue, and Southwest have asked for a combined total of over 50 flights a day to Havana. With tourism currently still not allowed, the market to Cuba slants heavily towards Florida. While it’s possible that CLT gets the nod from the Department of Transportation, I’d have to rate it as an odds-against proposition.
