LaGuardia Airport in New York City is a both a very desirable destination and probably the nation’s most delay-prone airport. As a result, it’s capacity restricted. American Airlines has enough take-off and landing slots for 130 flights a day — and has had enough of the delays and, one would presume, losses. The airline announced Wednesday that the airline is cutting that figure by a third come November; AA’s five daily Charlotte-LaGuardia flights, flown by 37-seat regional jets, are among those that will be eliminated. American has flown the route since May 2005.

Delta will also be eliminating its CLT-LGA flights in September, leaving US Airways as the only airline offering nonstops between Charlotte and LaGuardia.

Other AA routes: It tentatively looks like American will have 17 flights a day from Charlotte come November:

Dallas-Ft. Worth: five flights a day on 140 seat MD-80 jets
St. Louis: three flights a day on 50-seat regional jets
Chicago O’Hare: five flights a day on 44- or 50-seat regional jets
Miami: four flights a day on 44- or 50-seat regional jets

Will update this on Saturday when American’s final November schedules are posted.

Chicago O’Hare Update: Looks like we’re down to four flights a day on American to ORD come November.
