PART cuts its Kernersville route:

Kernersville residents will no longer be able to ride a PART bus to their destinations around town after Sept. 30. But people going to Winston-Salem or Greensboro can still catch the PART express bus off South Main Street.

In mid-August, the Piedmont Authority for Regional Transportation, or PART, decided to discontinue its Kernersville connector service, in which residents could call PART and schedule rides for short trips within Kernersville. Drivers would pick up residents at their homes, take them to their destinations and return them to their homes, said Brent McKinney, PART’s executive director.

PART used a $600,000 grant from the Federal Transit Administration to operate the PART bus in Kernersville, and that money ran out in July, McKinney said.

The bus averaged 46 riders a day.
