The race for Chapel Hill mayor is proving very interesting. First there was the News & Observer story that characterized the race as a pro-business challenge to the town’s entrenched liberal establishment. Today comes the report that Kevin Wolff has dropped out of the race. This will be worth watching on election night. Even though Chapel Hill is one of the most liberal communities in the state, the challenge to the liberal status quo is a good tap on the shoulder to town officials who believe government should be involved in virtually every aspect of citizens’ lives. They’ve had little or no challenge to those policies for years.
