Maybe the Rhino’s John Hammer isn’t so whacked after all.
A couple of weeks ago, Hammer reported-editorialized on the need for more cops in downtown Greensboro and caught hell from Yes! Weekly editor Brian Clarey.
Well, perhaps the idea is not so far-fetched now that the N&R has caught on, supported no less by downtown big guys John Lomax and Milton Kern.
Visitors to Elm Street in recent weeks “described receiving offers to buy drugs, fending off sexual catcalls and seeing to men and a woman sprawled on the sidewalk, groping one another.”
Hammer pointed out, “The City Council is immensely proud of the rebirth of the downtown, but councilmembers don’t seem to realize that any weekend, something could happen that could drastically alter the way people now feel about downtown Greensboro.”
Let’s hope that something doesn’t involve gunshots. Remember, with growth comes a price.
