Annexation Reform made the list of eleven action items JLF hoped the legislature would address in the first 100 days of the 2011 Legislative session. It was a victory for us and was a great day for North Carolina when HB 845, Annexation Reform Act of 2011 passed into law on July 1 with overwhelming support from both the House and Senate. So citizens are now protected from overreaching municipalities with a voice in the process, right? Well, not so fast. The petition process was successfully underway in the Gates Four community to stop an forced annexation by Fayetteville when Fayetteville stepped in and tried to halt the petition process. Still waiting for an official reply and the go-ahead to continue – or not.
Looks like getting the law passed wasn’t quite enough – now we have to make sure it’s followed.
