There have been so many hate-incident and hate-speech hoaxes on college campuses and elsewhere, my first assumption upon hearing of an incident is that it’s a fake. The perpetrators need to realize this is not the best way to “raise awareness.” The latest comes from Trinity College in Hartford, Conn:

Lynda Ikejimba ’09 announced that she was responsible for the racist TrinTalk.com post ….

“I am the person responsible for the outrageous, despicably racist post published on the TrinTalk website,” wrote Ikejimba in a campus-wide apology email. “And I am a black woman. I am writing to apologize to all of you for what I have caused.”

Ikejimba says she was trying a “social experiment,” claiming that it was successful in that it showed the student body to be abhorred by her racial post. That seems to be more an ex post facto effort to mitigate her racial slander than a genuine effort at Swiftian satire, as she now claims.
