Bernie Marcus, founder of Home Depot, writes here about the so-called Employee Free Choice Act, which Obama and almost every Democratic candidate is trumpeting as a great “reform.” Actually, it’s an authoritarian, special-interest bill that will enable unions to dragoon more people into their ranks.
Marcus argues that an America with this law would become like France today or Britain in the pre-Thatcher days when the unions dominated the economy. He’s right. The union agenda is the very antithesis of the freedom for capital and labor that lead to growth and innovation. If passed, this law would considerably strengthen the hand of union bosses in politics.
A good question to ask candidates (including Kay Hagan?) who back this bill would be why workers shouldn’t also be able to just sign a card if they want to get out of a union.
