The news in the Charlotte Observer today discusses the possibility of “Americans Elect” gaining a slot on the North Carolina ballot this fall. The party describes itself with the an oxymoron and a non-sequitur, “non-partisan.” Here’s my two favorite quotes from the Observer article:

According to its website, the nonprofit group hopes to “help break gridlock and change politics as usual” with a candidate who “will put their country before their party, and American interests before special interests.”

and

Americans Elect was funded with $21 million raised from undisclosed seed donors, reported to be mostly wealthy hedge-fund executives.
