The Alamance County Transit Authority is facing a budget crisis and will ponder a fare increase at its next meeting as a band-aid.
In addition to the fare increase, ACTA proposes the sale of several buses and vans to help offset costs. If those moves fail to reduce costs, the agency could potentially shut down.
ACTA surveyed the public about a fare increase and received a total of 38 responses, while nobody showed up for the recent public hearing to discuss the budget crisis.
Yet ACTA board member Jim Albright is still frustrated that Burlington and Alamance County have not established a regional public transportation system. Seems to me they’ve spared themselves the same problem only on wider scale.
