As the headline writer put it, “Obama pushes plans that flopped before.” Associated Press reporter Calvin Woodward was not very kind to President Obama in a review of last night’s State of the Union address. Among the statements Woodward recounted, he found “budgetary sleight of hand,” “half true” assertions, a president “more sanguine about progress … than his own intelligence apparatus,” proposals “unlikely to become law,” a claim that “left out key details,” and other rhetorical devices that weren’t quite connected to reality.

Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln said she enjoyed the performance.
