Dr. Troy Kickler delivered a presentation at Western Carolina University entitled “Separated from the Family: Black Orphans and Apprentices in Reconstruction Tennessee.” The public and the academy were represented in the audience. Following his presentation, Troy answered questions; and, after returning to Raleigh, discovered that more people had called and asked about his presentation than any other.
