On the contrary, UNC Chapel Hill career services staff say they’ve had to turn away recruiters from job fairs. From The Daily Tar Heel:

Economics professor Patrick Conway said most of the hard-hit sectors of the economy are labor-intensive, such as automobile manufacturing, and are not those in which graduates usually seek employment.

He also said the N.C. economy is performing more strongly than is the national economy. Harris added that 51 percent of employed 2007 graduates found jobs in North Carolina.

Despite the lack of impact on the graduate job market, Harris said some students still think recruitment on campus is down from previous years, mostly because of negative news reports on the economy.

“Right now it’s been just a media frenzy,” said Leigh Babaian, associate director for career development in Kenan-Flagler’s bachelors of science in business administration program.
