Interesting N&O article on N.C. State’s inability to fill the RBC center for Wolfpack basketball games. I realize that the Pack’s dismal record under Sidney Lowe doesn’t help matters much.

A few things about this article remind me of the goings-on up here in Greensboro. Maybe it’s UNCG’s loss to College of Charleston in front of 2,300 fans at the Greensboro Coliseum. Maybe it’s the fact that the cost for the RBC was originally $70 million but ended up being $160 million. Maybe it’s hearing concerns expressed by State AD Les Robinson about moving from Reynolds Coliseum expressed after the fact.

On the subject of the Greensboro Coliseum, another unsuccessful City Council candidate comments here that “in some way, burns me that the highest paid employee for the City of Greensboro can’t seem to run an operation that doesn’t need additional funding from the City.”

Aforementioned “highest-paid city employee” would be coliseum director Matt Brown, who’s had to do some backtracking on the coliseum commission’s support for the proposed aquatic center. Perhaps if we’d heard this type of talk during the election, aforementioned City Council candidate would be a sitting City Council member.
