Oh brother. Are you surprised?
CMPD is not releasing the perp’s name — they are doubtless going to try to hang every B&E they can find on the guy and are conducting line-ups to that end — but I note that this guy has the arrest number immediately before Mr. “Pendng” on felony assault with a deadly weapon, inflicting serious injury (cutting) charges.
This guy was also arrested about 6:30pm and a couple hours later word of an arrest in the Clontz case was out. His incarceration record is also quite long. In short, if this is not the man charged with stabbing Mildred Clontz to death, then there was another violent repeat felon wondering the streets of Charlotte attacking and wounding people.
Wonderful. Helluva system we have, people.
Bonus Observation: I guarantee that the common sense plea for safe streets from one of Clontz’s neighbors printed today in the Uptown paper of record is answered by a defender of the status quo arguing for more “resources” and pleading the complexity of it all.
There is red, dark blood on the hands of every prosecutor and judge in this city who repeatedly turns people loose because they cannot afford to try them. There is dark, red blood on the hands of the governor and state legislators who won’t put up the money needed to make our criminal justice system work.
That’s a high, hanging curveball for our mendacious civic leaders.
Update: There is another name now floating around in connection with the Clontz case. At the moment the guy stands charged with four felonies including murder. He served almost 20 years in prison on an armed robbery charge dating to 1987 and was released in March of last year.
