In March, Hendersonville City Council voted to switch from recycling bins to rollout containers. To help them make that decision, Ron Moore, owner of American Recycling, offered to pay the city $25,000. The deal was signed, but now Moore can’t make good on his commitment. He had purchased a million-dollar. state-of-the-art sorting system that didn’t work. As a result, he is shipping recyclables to a sorter in South Carolina at a loss. Another factor contributing to his problems is the decrease in market value of recyclable materials.

At their meeting today, council decided to cut Moore a break. They will let him pay in five annual installments. The first payment is due in June, 2015.
