Usually in life, when you are hired for a specialty, you’re pretty good at it. Given that, how does Ruth Marcus keep her job at The Washington Post as a political commentator? Here’s her view of yesterday’s outcome in Virginia:

Advice to readers about the coming orgy of analysis about the New Jersey and Virginia gubernatorial elections: Ignore it.

Someone ask Heath Shuler and his fellow Blue Dogs if they’re dismissing last night’s results as blithely as Marcus.

The winner, Bob McDonnell, won the attorney general’s race in the last election by a few tenths of a percent over the same opponent. That he coasted to so huge a victory in the swing state of Virginia now has to send a message to red-state Democratic congressmen: Obama may be able to survive in the deep water into which he is leading his party, but you can’t.

The Post really sold itself out for Deeds — and look how well that turned out. The Post has a few lessons to learn, but as the first hours of spin show, they’re not the only media outlet that needs Remedial Objectivity on their curriculum.
