The economy is improving. The 31st Annual Assessment of Hunger and Homelessness concluded, in the words of the US Conference of Mayors’ CEO and Executive Director Tom Cochran:

There’s no question that the nation’s economy is on the mend, but there’s also no question that the slow pace of recovery is making it difficult – and, for many, impossible – to respond to the growing needs of the hungry and the homeless.

The obvious contradiction aside, it is still peeving how children who get lots of guaranteed free food every day are held up as starving when some of our neighbors really don’t have food.
