The Charlotte Business Journal today confirms our report yesterday that the pro-tax, pro-CATS folks will spend at least $700,000 on a slick ad campaign helmed by R&R Partners.

R&R handles the PR accounts for the Las Vegas convention authority, the Las Vegas monorail, and Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains, among others.

The campaign will kick-off next month. Expect to hear lots of talk about congestion and Charlotte falling behind, will shots of gridlocked traffic and hazy air.

Should be fun.

Bonus observation: Clip and save this quote, it is the closest thing yet from the Uptown paper of record reporting that city officials claim that building light rail has something to do with reducing traffic congestion:

City officials believe Charlotte needs to expand its mass transit system over the next 25 years to cope with increasing congestion.

“Expand the mass transit system” means build trains — the bus system can’t get any bigger. And new trains absolutely, positively will not reduce congestion.

We need a new plan.
