Round 1: Bill Harrison took the first round thanks to Bev Perdue. Perdue insulted June Atkinson by calling her an “ambassador” for public schools – during a press conference, no less.
Round 2: Harrison easily won this round when Perdue appointed him CEO Guy.
Round 3: State Superintendent of Public Instruction Atkinson took this round by teaming up with NCICL to file a lawsuit aimed at “clarifying” public school governance in North Carolina.
Round 4: Atkinson continues to fight back and wins this round based on style points. Although not obligated to do so, Atkinson has asked the state to reduce her annual salary by half a percent out of consideration for her N.C. Department of Public Instruction colleagues.
