The wonderfully clear-minded Roger Clegg writes about the attack launched by the howlingly misnamed People for the American Way on Judge Roberts. You can read the whole thing here.
The two big issues are “comparable worth” (a socialistic idea that would require government officials to dictate wages that they think are “fair” as between, say, men who drive trucks and women who work in libraries) and “affirmative action” (which doesn’t have any exact meaning, but has come to mean “affirmative discrimination” and is opposed by huge majorities of people of all kinds). Clegg is in favor of actually having a debate over those issues, one in which PFAW would undoubtedly regret having thrown down the gauntlet.
