An audit (PDF) of the North Carolina Virtual Public School (NCVPS) revealed serious problems with the administration of the state’s online education program.

The NC Office of the State Auditor found that NCVPS “does not have adequate controls in place to prevent or detect errors in student enrollment numbers.”  This is important because NCVPS teachers are paid based on student enrollment figures.  Moreover, the State Auditor’s office found multiple, rather embarrassing, errors in the NCVPS Annual Report.  Finally, NCVPS’s “instructional leaders” did not follow teacher evaluation procedures.  For example, one instructional leader/teacher evaluated herself!
