Everybody loves government downsizing. Asheville government has set the goal of reducing its energy use, not to, but by 80%. They seek to do this by reducing energy use 2% each year until 2050. (In Asheville, we don’t ask questions. We feel the numbers. Do they feel good? Huh?) To accomplish this goal, the city hired Maggie Ullman, who graduated from UNCA in 2006. Ullman’s official title is Energy Coordinator. To appeal to the righties, Ullman is showing fiscal conservatism by trying out compact fluorescent light bulbs in a parking garage for three months before purchasing them.
