Will my French friends cease to impress? The cover of Charlie Hebdo brought a tear to the eye. The Charlies are being the bigger person in so many ways, I scarce can take it in. Here’s my retweet as a gesture of admiration and gratitude:

Closer to home, we have a big hubbub on the Asheville City Council agenda. Somebody wants to convert a residential lot to a business lot. It happens to be about (the square root of 2) blocks from where I used to live. Chestnut Street was mostly office space, but Broad Street was residential. The city planners are concerned about the impact the office would have, and I scoff. The house where I lived was divided into five apartments, and some units had multiple tenants. Some tenants worked out of their apartments. Some liked to blare music, and one liked to smoke a carton of cigarettes every night. I ask how a law office could be worse? As an aside, we all survived.
