Good heavens, we are gonna need shovel to dig out from today’s crapstorm. A few facts:

  • By far the nation’s sports bigfoot is the NFL. During the past five years attendance at the Pro Football Hall of Fame has averaged 196,000 per year. The highest ever annual attendance was 330,000 — back in 1973. Yet attendance projections for the first 13 months of the France Family Convention Center Expansion and Expo Hall are for 800,000 visitors, and 400K per year after that.
  • Attendance at NASCAR races is falling. Sponsorship dollars for NASCAR are shrinking.
  • Rick Hendrick pled guilty to a felony — all the Uptown standing ovations and presidential pardons cannot change that.
  • The Uptown crowd was so desperate to land the France Family Convention Center Expansion and Expo Hall that they actually suggested trading away a race event in order to get it. This continues to be one of the great under-reported stories of the decade.

At a minimum, put on your muck boots and prepare for more in the coming months.
