All of the following are in today’s Raleigh News & Observer:
First, there is the story that “although Durham Public Schools receives the third-highest local per-pupil funding in the state, its scores continue to lag behind districts with similar demographics that spend much less money.” What’s more is “Superintendent Ann Denlinger will ask the Durham school board tonight to recommend $12.3 million more in local funding.”
Then, a draft audit has revealed that many County employees have been overcharged since 1995 for employee insurance. The overcharge was approved by officials in ’95 to combat a budget crisis, but then county forgot to stop overcharging once the budget problem was fixed. The audit also revealed that some employees received double-digit raises without proper documentation or reasoning.
In another story, the city of Durham is finally moving towards foreclose on Marlynda Bodison, the resident that has paid roughly $3,000 on a $28,5000 city-back home loan received a decade ago, but with little luck of recovering much of the “lost” revenue.
But cheer up, Durham, tomorrow is Friday!
