Former U.S. Rep. Frank Ballance pleaded guilty in federal court this week to conspiring to misuse public funds. On Tuesday, WNCT-TV in Greenville turned to Don Carrington for a background interview about the investigation. Carrington, of course, was instrumental in uncovering and reporting on the corruption involving Ballance’s nonprofit, the John Hyman Foundation, which received roughly $2 million in state funds over a decade. Last month, Carrington was lauded by Jim Sullins of the Roanoke-Chowan News-Herald as the “principal peeler of this odorous awfulness.” We couldn’t have put it better ourselves.
