The Charlotte Business Journal last week unearthed new details on the Uptown baseball saga. Charlotte super-lawyer Bill Diehl is indeed ready to sue the city and the county should any money from the 2004 bond issue for a Third Ward park find its way into the rampage to bring the AAA Charlotte Knights up from Rock Hill. What’s more the Journal adds that county officials suspect spurned major league baseball dreamer Jerry Reese is behind Diehl.

Recall that Reese briefly entertained the city and the county with tales of a $1 billion plan to bring the Florida Marlins to Charlotte, along with major redevelopment in Second Ward. The only hitch was that Reese had no where near $1 billion.

Better still, the entire baseball process has Mecklenburg County Commissioner Dan Bishop filing his own public records request of city and county staff, trying to figure out exactly what has been promised to whom.

Stay tuned.
