Joe Minicozzi is a local character who is famous for being famous. The urban planner from Florida is once again in the headlines. This time, it is because he is traveling around telling cities and counties what he says should be obvious: They will get more revenue if they can encourage infill development. Shortsightedness causes taxpayers to object to government paying for infrastructure to promote infill.

Commentators were aghast. They thought it bold of government to presume it exists to collect revenue off people; and worse that it should cause people to live like rats in concrete holes so it can get more revenue. One summed up:

Right. It’s the duty of citizens to make projects lucrative for the government.
