I do not speak well of Asheville City Council’s Strategic Operating Plan. So much for English, the resolution to adopt it reads:

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
ASHEVILLE
Affirms its strategic priorities to ensure that Asheville is a City that is:

  • Economic Growth and Sustainability – Seek to ensure a sustainable financial future
for Asheville by promoting an environment where citizens and businesses want to
    live, work and invest.
  • Affordability and Economic Mobility – Seek to ensure a sustainable future for
Asheville through a standard of living that is affordable and attainable for people of
all incomes, life stages and abilities.
  • High Quality of Life – Seek to ensure a sustainable future for Asheville by promoting
a safe environment where basic needs are met and all people can enjoy a high
    quality of life.

The contents speak as if financial stability is debt and reliance on others. Food, shelter, and diversification fall under the purview of government planning. What could be more strategic than a Food Action Plan with public/private partnerships? What could increase affordable housing stock more than market distortions imposed by extended government bureaucracy? Diversification, of course, is how government tries to make some of the black clones act more like the white clones. That will make us safe. Besides that, I deem council’s involvement with the schools to be overreach, and I despise wage controls.
