But so is the local Knight Ridder outlet’s stubborn refusal to call for Jim Black’s ouster from both the speakership and his house seat. Now that Black’s own lawyer has admitted that the running two-year cover story that had Meredith Norris doing “only” outside political work for the speaker is just that — a fiction, a deception, a lie — serious people can only conclude one thing — Jim Black must go.
And isn’t it telling that what it takes to get the truth out of Raleigh is a few grand jury subpeonas? Is it not clear that the current leadership in Raleigh has nothing but contempt for the average citizen and understands but one thing — raw, brute state power?
