The 2010 Pulitzer Committee has awarded a special citation this year to singer-songwriter Hank Williams. Hank won’t get to enjoy it, though, since he died in 1953.

Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs once recorded a song called “Give Me Flowers While I’m Living.” The Pulitzer should give it a listen.

I’m excited about next year. Maybe Johnny Mercer will win a special citation. “One For My Baby” alone makes him worthy. Here he is singing it himself. This version is a ’60s re-do. His 1940’s version, which is not on the Web, is much better.
