If you’re looking for something to do this weekend, I’d highly recommend a visit to the North Carolina Museum of Art to see the Beverly McIver exhibit. A native North Carolinian, McIver’s paintings are vibrant and emotional and the exhibit offers a “history of her family, particularly the struggles surrounding her sister’s disability and her mother’s death, allows McIver to contemplate and illustrate the complicated emotions that arise from these situations, such as depression, frustration, tender compassion, and innocent joy.” She is also the subject of a New York Times piece that gives you a closer look at her life and family. The exhibit is in the old (red brick) building and is open Tues, Thurs, Sat, and Sun 10:00 to 5:00 and 10:00 to 9:00 on Fridays. It’s worth a visit to Beverly McIver. You’ll feel like you have new friend!
