Biden comes to Greensboro and talks protectionism, heavy on the melodrama:
“Ultimately it’s about jobs,” said Biden, a Delaware senator. “This state’s textile industry, like mine two decades earlier, is getting killed. Nobody has been willing to stand up to China and nail them when they compete unfairly.
“In a sense, it’s even more than about jobs — it’s about dignity and it’s about respect,” Biden said. “It’s about having to make that very long walk up a short flight of stairs to your son or daughter’s bedroom and say, ‘honey, I’m sorry but I don’t have a job anymore.'”
Update: Biden said 35,000 North Carolinians had made that long walk.
