The residents of Durham County are being treated to a tongue lashing for — cue the violins — supposedly not sacrificing enough for the children and for school administrators and teachers. You guessed it –a liberal political group and the local teacher association/union like the idea of another property tax hike so Big Education can get what it wanst, no matter the fiscal circumstances of the county, the state, and the taxpayers. The Herald-Sun points out that last year, “the county raised taxes 5.4 percent, part of which staved off layoffs.” But that, of course, is the last thing Big Education cares about. As Durham Association of Educators President Kristy Moore said: “This is a war.” Yes, a war to get other people’s money, no matter what.
