Matthews is getting down to its last chance to widen South Trade Street before it is too late. A couple more years and it’ll be gridlock and falling property values all along the “back end” of Matthews.
Maybe that is what some opponents of widening Trade to four-lanes want, but I doubt it. More likely they are operating under the common misunderstanding that better roads attract more traffic, and/or the myth that nothing is better for property values than living on a sleepy cul-de-sac that no one can get to.
Were the former true, North Carolina east of I-95 would be choked with traffic. As for the latter, ask yourself how attractive the property is that adds 20 to 30 minutes to your commute each day due to poor roads. Would you pay more or less for such a “feature?”
If you live or work or have kids in school in or around Matthews, you might want to set aside some time to go to the Traffic Advisory Committee Workshop tomorrow at 7pm at Matthews Town Hall. Be warned however, traffic is a bitch.
