Bill Moyers’ combative left-wingism has always felt like it was fueled by something other than ideological certainty. It seemed more like the kind of fervor fueled by guilt. My assumption was that it was white guilt that pushed Moyers, once a mild-mannered press operative, to become an obnoxious agenda pusher. Instead, it might be guilt from sins he committed as an LBJ lacky in the ’60s. I think he’s been trying to atone for those sins:

In other words, Moyers didn’t just use the FBI to dig up dirt on the sex lives of fellow members of the Johnson Administration. He used the FBI to dig up dirt on the sex lives of the president’s chief political rivals.
