Taxpayers recently helped the owners of 14 North Carolina charter fishing boats — including one named “Bite Me” — replace their boats’ diesel engines. Carolina Journal Executive Editor Don Carrington exposed this dubious use of federal stimulus dollars this week. Carrington’s article attracted attention from Lucianne.com, American Spectator, American Tradition Institute, Watchdog.org, Beaufort Observer, and N.C. Senate Republicans. Meanwhile, the N.C. News Network quoted Managing Editor Rick Henderson in a statewide radio report about government pension obligations. The Lincoln Tribune and N.C. Senate Republicans promoted Associate Editor David Bass‘ report on House leaders’ efforts to round up votes for an override of Gov. Beverly Perdue’s veto of the Woman’s Right to Know abortion bill. New Orleans’ Gambit weekly highlighted Bass’ work in a story about a plagiarizing columnist named Jim Brown. The Lincoln Tribune published Associate Editor Sara Burrows‘ report detailing Raleigh’s consideration of new food truck regulations. N.C. Senate Republicans highlighted Burrows’ report on different approaches to state water policy and a CJ column on congressional redistricting from Mitch Kokai, John Locke Foundation Director of Communications. A Farmville Enterprise columnist recently quoted from a 2006 CJ article in discussing state government’s misuse of past budget surpluses.
